Salat al-Mayyit
صلاة الميّت
Salat al-Mayyit (Namaz-e-Janaza) is the obligatory funeral prayer (Wajib Kifa'i) performed over every Muslim who has passed away. It consists of 5 Takbirs with supplications between each. Unlike other prayers, there is no Ruku' or Sujud. 1. Niyyah + 1st Takbir → Shahadatayn 2. 2nd Takbir → Salawat on the Prophet and his family 3. 3rd Takbir → Dua for all believers 4. 4th Takbir → Dua for the deceased (male/female/child) 5. 5th Takbir → Prayer is complete
أُصَلِّي صَلَاةَ الْمَيِّتِ عَلَى هَذَا الْمَيِّتِ قُرْبَةً إِلَى اللَّهِ
Usalli salatal-mayyiti 'ala hadha-l-mayyiti qurbatan ila-llah
I pray the Funeral Prayer over this deceased, seeking nearness to Allah.
اَشْهَدُ اَنْ لاَّ اِلٰهَ اِلاَّ اللهُ وَحْدَهُ لاَ شَرِيْكَ لَهُ وَ اَشْهَدُ اَنَّ مُحَمَّدًا عَبْدُهُ وَ رَسُوْلُهُ اَرْسَلَهُ بِالْحَقِّ بَشِيْرًا وَّ نَذِيْرًا بَيْنَ يَدَيِ السَّاعَةِ
Ash-hadu an laa ilaaha illal-laahu wahdahu laa shareeka lahu wa ash-hadu anna Muhammadan 'abduhu wa rasuluhu arsalahu bil-haqqi basheeran wa nadheeran bayna yadayi-s-saa'ah
I testify that there is no god except Allah, alone without partner, and I testify that Muhammad is His servant and Messenger, whom He sent with truth as a giver of glad tidings and a warner before the Hour.
اَللَّهُمَّ صَلِّ عَلىٰ مُحَمَّدٍ وَّ آلِ مُحَمَّدٍ وَ بَارِكْ عَلىٰ مُحَمَّدٍ وَّ آلِ مُحَمَّدٍ وَ ارْحَمْ مُحَمَّدًا وَّ آلَ مُحَمَّدٍ كَمَا صَلَّيْتَ وَ بَارَكْتَ وَ تَرَحَّمْتَ عَلىٰ اِبْرَاهِيْمَ وَ آلِ اِبْرَاهِيْمَ اِنَّكَ حَمِيْدٌ مَّجِيْدٌ
Allaahumma salli 'alaa Muhammadin wa aali Muhammadin wa baarik 'alaa Muhammadin wa aali Muhammadin war-ham Muhammadan wa aala Muhammadin kamaa sallayta wa baarakta wa tarahhamta 'alaa Ibraaheema wa aali Ibraaheema innaka hameedun majeed
O Allah, bestow blessings on Muhammad and the family of Muhammad, and send peace on Muhammad and the family of Muhammad, and have mercy on Muhammad and the family of Muhammad, as You blessed, sent peace, and had mercy on Ibrahim and the family of Ibrahim. Indeed You are Praiseworthy, Glorious.
اَللَّهُمَّ اغْفِرْ لِلْمُؤْمِنِيْنَ وَالْمُؤْمِنَاتِ وَالْمُسْلِمِيْنَ وَالْمُسْلِمَاتِ اَلاَحْيَاءِ مِنْهُمْ وَالاَمْوَاتِ تَابِعْ بَيْنَنَا وَ بَيْنَهُمْ بِالْخَيْرَاتِ اِنَّكَ مُجِيْبُ الدَّعَوَاتِ اِنَّكَ عَلىٰ كُلِّ شَيْءٍ قَدِيْرٌ
Allaahumma-ghfir lil-mu'mineena wal-mu'minaati wal-muslimeena wal-muslimaati al-ahyaa'i minhum wal-amwaati tabi' baynana wa baynahum bil-khayraat innaka mujeebud-da'awaat innaka 'alaa kulli shay'in qadeer
O Allah, forgive the believing men and women, and the Muslim men and women — the living among them and the deceased. Maintain the bond of goodness between us and them. Verily, You are the Answerer of prayers. Verily, You are Powerful over all things.
اَللَّهُمَّ اِنَّ هٰذَا عَبْدُكَ وَابْنُ عَبْدِكَ وَابْنُ اَمَتِكَ نَزَلَ بِكَ وَ اَنْتَ خَيْرُ مَنْزُوْلٍ بِهِ اَللّٰهُمَّ اِنَّا لاَ نَعْلَمُ مِنْهُ اِلاَّ خَيْراً وَ اَنْتَ اَعْلَمُ بِهِ مِنَّا اَللّٰهُمَّ اِنْ كَانَ مُحْسِنًا فَزِدْ فِيْ اِحْسَانِهِ وَ اِنْ كَانَ مُسِيْئًا وَ مُذْنِبًا فَتَجَاوَزْ عَنْ سَيِّئَاتِهِ وَ احْشُرْهُ مَعَ النَّبِيِّ وَ الْاَئِمَّةِ الطَّيِّبِيْنَ الطَّاهِرِيْنَ
Allaahumma inna haadha 'abduka wa-bnu 'abdika wa-bnu amatika nazala bika wa anta khayru manzuulin bihi Allaahumma innaa laa na'lamu minhu illaa khayran wa anta a'lamu bihi minnaa Allaahumma in kaana muhsinan fazid fee ihsaanihi wa in kaana musee'an wa mudhnibn fatajaaawaz 'an sayyi'aatihi wa-hshurhu ma'an-nabiyyi wal-a'immati-t-tayyibeena-t-taahireen
O Allah, indeed this is Your servant, son of Your servant and son of Your maidservant. He has come to You and You are the best of hosts. O Allah, we do not know except good from him, and You know him better than us. O Allah, if he had been a doer of good, increase his good deeds; and if he had been a sinner and an evil-doer, forgive his sins. And gather him on the Judgment Day with the Prophet and the purified and chaste Imams.
اَللَّهُمَّ اِنَّ هٰذِهِ اَمَتُكَ وَابْنَةُ عَبْدِكَ وَابْنَةُ اَمَتِكَ نَزَلَتْ بِكَ وَ اَنْتَ خَيْرُ مَنْزُوْلٍ بِهِ اَللّٰهُمَّ اِنَّا لاَ نَعْلَمُ مِنْهَا اِلاَّ خَيْراً وَ اَنْتَ اَعْلَمُ بِهَا مِنَّا اَللّٰهُمَّ اِنْ كَانَتْ مُحْسِنَةً فَزِدْ فِيْ اِحْسَانِهَا وَ اِنْ كَانَتْ مُسِيْئَةً وَ مُذْنِبَةً فَتَجَاوَزْ عَنْ سَيِّئَاتِهَا وَ احْشُرْهَا مَعَ النَّبِيِّ وَ الْاَئِمَّةِ الطَّيِّبِيْنَ الطَّاهِرِيْنَ

اَللَّهُمَّ اجْعَلْهُ لِاَبَوَيْهِ وَ لَنَا سَلَفًا وَّ فَرَطًا وَّ اَجْرًا
Allaahummaj-'alhu li-abawayhi wa lanaa salafan wa faratan wa ajraa
O Allah, make him for his parents and for us a store, a preceder, and a recompense.
اَللَّهُمَّ اجْعَلْهَا لِاَبَوَيْهَا وَ لَنَا سَلَفًا وَّ فَرَطًا وَّ اَجْرًا
Allaahummaj-'alhaa li-abawayhi wa lanaa salafan wa faratan wa ajraa
O Allah, make her for her parents and for us a store, a preceder, and a recompense.
رَبَّنَا اٰتِنَا فِى الدُّنْيَا حَسَنَةً وَّ فِى الْاٰخِرَةِ حَسَنَةً وَّقِنَا عَذَابَ النَّارِ
Rabbanaa aatinaa fid-dunyaa hasanatan wa fil-aakhirati hasanatan wa qinaa 'adhaaba-n-naar
Our Lord! Grant us good in this world and good in the hereafter, and save us from the punishment of the Fire.
Salat al-Ayat
صلاة الآيات
Salat al-Ayat is a Wajib (obligatory) prayer that becomes due upon the occurrence of certain fearful natural signs (ayat). It is structurally unlike any other salat — each of its 2 rakats contains 5 rukus, making 10 rukus in total. The name "Ayat" (Signs) reflects the Quranic teaching that these phenomena are signs from Allah calling humanity to turn to Him in humility and prayer.
أُصَلِّي صَلَاةَ الْآيَاتِ [لِكُسُوفِ الشَّمْسِ / لِخُسُوفِ الْقَمَرِ / لِلزَّلْزَلَةِ] قُرْبَةً إِلَى اللَّهِ
Usalli salatal-aayaati [li-kusufi-sh-shamsi / li-khusoofi-l-qamar / li-z-zalzala] qurbatan ila-llah
I pray Salat al-Ayat [for the solar eclipse / lunar eclipse / earthquake], seeking nearness to Allah.
Salat al-Layl
صلاة الليل
An 11-rakat voluntary night prayer of immense spiritual reward. Imam Sadiq (a.s.) said: "The night prayer is the honour of the believer." Its rewards include: forgiveness of sins, illumination of the face, ease of provision, protection from evil, and intercession on the Day of Judgement.
أُصَلِّي صَلَاةَ اللَّيْلِ قُرْبَةً إِلَى اللَّهِ
Usalli salata-l-layli qurbatan ila-llah
I pray the night prayer, seeking nearness to Allah.
رَبَّنَا آتِنَا فِي الدُّنْيَا حَسَنَةً وَفِي الْآخِرَةِ حَسَنَةً وَقِنَا عَذَابَ النَّارِ
Rabbana atina fid-dunya hasanatan wa fil-akhirati hasanatan wa qina 'adhabannar
Our Lord, give us good in this world and good in the Hereafter, and protect us from the punishment of the Fire.
أَسْتَغْفِرُ اللَّهَ رَبِّي وَأَتُوبُ إِلَيْهِ
Astaghfiru-llaha Rabbi wa atubu ilayh
I seek forgiveness from Allah, my Lord, and I repent to Him.
هَذَا مَقَامُ الْعَائِذِ بِكَ مِنَ النَّارِ
Hadha maqamu-l-'a'idhi bika mina-n-nar
This is the station of one who seeks Your refuge from the Fire.
اللَّهُمَّ اغْفِرْ لِلْمُؤْمِنِينَ وَالْمُؤْمِنَاتِ وَالْمُسْلِمِينَ وَالْمُسْلِمَاتِ الْأَحْيَاءِ مِنْهُمْ وَالْأَمْوَاتِ
Allahumma-ghfir lil-mu'minina wal-mu'minati wal-muslimina wal-muslimati al-ahya'i minhum wal-amwat
O Allah, forgive the believing men and women, the Muslim men and women — the living among them and the deceased.
Salat Jafar e Tayyar
صلاة جعفر الطيار
A 4-rakat prayer of immense virtue. The Prophet (s.a.w.a.) said to Jafar ibn Abi Talib: "I gift you something — if you pray it once a day, Allah will forgive 1,000 sins; if you cannot pray it daily, once a week; if not weekly, once a month; if not monthly, once a year; if not yearly, once in your lifetime." The prayer is done as 2 sets of 2 rakat (like Fajr nafilah). Total: 300 Tasbeehat Arba'a.
سُبْحَانَ اللهِ وَ الْحَمْدُ لِلهِ وَ لَا اِلٰهَ اِلَّا اللهُ وَ اللهُ اَكْبَر
Subhana-llahi wa-l-hamdu lillahi wa la ilaha ill-Allahu wa-Llahu akbar
Glory be to Allah, and praise be to Allah, and there is no god but Allah, and Allah is the Greatest.
سُبْحَانَ اللهِ وَ الْحَمْدُ لِلهِ وَ لَا اِلٰهَ اِلَّا اللهُ وَ اللهُ اَكْبَر
Subhana-llahi wa-l-hamdu lillahi wa la ilaha ill-Allahu wa-Llahu akbar

سُبْحَانَ مَنْ لَبِسَ ٱلْعِزَّ وَٱلْوَقَارَ سُبْحَانَ مَنْ تَعَطَّفَ بِٱلْمَجْدِ وَتَكَرَّمَ بِهِ سُبْحَانَ مَنْ لاَ يَنْبَغِي ٱلتَّسْبِيحُ إِلاَّ لَهُ سُبْحَانَ مَنْ احْصَىٰ كُلَّ شَيْءٍ عِلْمُهُ سُبْحَانَ ذِي ٱلْمَنِّ وَٱلنِّعَمِ سُبْحَانَ ذِي ٱلْقُدْرَةِ وَٱلْكَرَمِ اَللَّهُمَّ إِنِّي اسْالُكَ بِمَعَاقِدِ ٱلْعِزِّ مِنْ عَرْشِكَ وَمُنْتَهَىٰ ٱلرَّحْمَةِ مِنْ كِتَابِكَ وَٱسْمِكَ ٱلاعْظَمِ وَكَلِمَاتِكَ ٱلتَّامَّةِ ٱلَّتِي تَمَّتْ صِدْقاً وَعَدْلاًَ صَلِّ عَلَىٰ مُحَمَّدٍ وَاهْلِ بَيْتِهِ
subhana man labisa al-izza wal-waqara subhana man ta'attafa bil-majdi wa takarrama bihi subhana man la yanbaghi al-tasbihu illa lahu subhana man ahsa kulla shay'in 'ilmuhu subhana dhi al-manni wal-ni'ami subhana dhi al-qudrati wal-karami allahumma inni as'aluka bima'aqidi al-'izzi min 'arshika wa muntaha al-rahmati min kitabika wa-smika al-a'zami wa kalimatika al-tammati allati tammat sidqan wa 'adlan salli 'ala muhammadin wa ahli baytihi
Glory be to Him Who has dressed Himself with dignity and sobriety! Glory be to Him Who has deigned with grandeur and honored it! Glory be to Him save Whom none is worthy of being glorified! Glory be to Him Whose knowledge has counted all things! Glory be to the Lord of bounty and boon! Glory be to the Lord of omnipotence and nobility! O Allah, I beseech You in the name of the objects of dignity in Your Throne, in the name of the utmost of mercy in Your Book, and in the name of Your Greatest Name and Your Accomplished Words, which have been accomplished truly and justly, (please) send blessings to Muhammad and his Household.
يَا رَبِّ يَا رَبِّ يَا رَبَّاهُ يَا رَبَّاهُ رَبِّ رَبِّ يَا اللَّهُ يَا اللَّهُ يَا حَيُّ يَا حَيُّ يَا رَحِيمُ يَا رَحِيمُ يَا رَحْمٰنُ يَا رَحْمٰنُ يَا ارْحَمَ ٱلرَّاحِمِينَ
ya rabbi ya rabbi ya rabbahu ya rabbahu rabbi rabbi ya allahu ya allahu ya hayyu ya hayyu ya rahimu ya rahimu ya rahmanu ya rahmanu (×7) ya arhama al-rahimina (×7)
O Lord, O Lord! O my Lord, O my Lord! Lord, Lord! O Allah, O Allah! O Ever-living, O Ever-living! O All-merciful, O All-merciful! O All-compassionate, O All-compassionate! (×7) O Most Merciful of all those who show mercy! (×7)
اَللَّهُمَّ إِنِّي افْتَتِحُ ٱلْقَوْلَ بِحَمْدِكَ وَانْطِقُ بِٱلثَّنَاءِ عَلَيْكَ وَامَجِّدُكَ وَلاَ غَايَةَ لِمَدْحِكَ وَاثْنِي عَلَيْكَ وَمَنْ يَبْلُغُ غَايَةَ ثَنَائِكَ وَامَدَ مَجْدِكَ وَانَّىٰ لِخَلِيقَتِكَ كُنْهُ مَعْرِفَةِ مَجْدِكَ وَايَّ زَمَنٍ لَمْ تَكُنْ مَمْدُوحاً بِفَضْلِكَ مَوْصُوفاً بِمَجْدِكَ عَوَّاداً عَلَىٰ ٱلْمُذْنِبِينَ بِحِلْمِكَ تَخَلَّفَ سُكَّانُ ارْضِكَ عَنْ طَاعَتِكَ فَكُنْتَ عَلَيْهِمْ عَطُوفاً بِجُودِكَ جَوَاداً بِفَضْلِكَ عَوَّاداً بِكَرَمِكَ يَا لاَ إِلٰهَ إِلاَّ انْتَ ٱلْمَنَّانُ ذُو ٱلْجَلاَلِ وَٱلإِكْرَامِ
allahumma inni aftatihu al-qawla bihamdika wa antiqu bil-thana'i 'alayka wa umajjiduka wa la ghayata limadhika wa uthni 'alayka wa man yablughu ghayata thana'ika wa amada majdika wa anna likhaliqatika kunha ma'rifati majdika wa ayya zamanin lam takun mamduhan bifadlika mawsufan bimajdika 'awwadan 'ala al-mudhnibina bihilmika takhallafa sukkanu ardika 'an ta'atika fakunta 'alayhim 'atufan bijudika jawadan bifadlika 'awwadan bikaramika ya la ilaha illa anta al-mannanu dhul-jalali wal-ikrami
O Allah, I commence my wording with declaring praise to You, I utter the words of tribute to You, I glorify You although Your glory is limitless, and I compliment You — none can ever compliment You as much as You deserve, none can attain the extent of Your glory! And how can Your creatures ever recognize Your glory in its actual measure! And how can there be any moment for which You do not deserve praise due to Your favors and in which You are not ascribed to glory and in which You do not incessantly treat the sinful with Your forbearance? Although the inhabitants of Your earth have fallen behind in being obedient to You, You have been kind to them out of Your munificence, munificent out of Your favors, and liberal out of Your generosity. O He save Whom there is no god! O All-benevolent! O Lord of Glory and Honor!
Salat al-Eid
صلاة العيد
A 2-rakat prayer performed on both Eid al-Fitr and Eid al-Adha, featuring 9 additional Takbirs with Qunut supplications after each. • Perform ghusl and wear your best clothes before going • On Eid al-Fitr: eat something before the prayer; on Eid al-Adha: do not eat until after • Best prayed in an open field on the ground (no prayer mat)
Salat al Wahshat
صلاة الوحشة
A 2-rakat mustahab prayer offered on behalf of a deceased person on the first night of their burial. The first night in the grave is a moment of great terror and loneliness for the soul. This prayer, gifted by the living to the deceased, brings them light and comfort. Imam Ali ibn Abi Talib (a.s.) is reported to have said: "Whoever prays two rakat for the deceased on the first night — reciting Ayat al-Kursi in the first and al-Qadr ten times in the second — Allah will remove from the deceased the terror of the first night, and reward the one who prayed."
أُصَلِّي صَلَاةَ الْوَحْشَةِ لِلْمَيِّتِ [اِسْمُ الْمَيِّتِ] قُرْبَةً إِلَى اللَّهِ
Usalli salatal-wahshati lil-mayyiti [name of the deceased] qurbatan ila-llah
I pray the Prayer of Loneliness for the deceased [name], seeking nearness to Allah.
اَللَّهُمَّ صَلِّ عَلىٰ مُحَمَّدٍ وَّ آلِ مُحَمَّدٍ وَابْعَثْ ثَوَابَهَا إِلىٰ قَبْرِ [اِسْمُ الْمَيِّتِ]
Allaahumma salli 'alaa Muhammadin wa aali Muhammadin wab'ath thawaabahaa ilaa qabri [name of deceased]
O Allah, send blessings on Muhammad and the family of Muhammad, and send the reward of this prayer to the grave of [name of deceased].
Salat al-Ghufaylah
صلاة الغفيلة
the Prayer of the Heedless Hour is a 2-rakat mustahab prayer performed between Maghrib and Isha, during what the traditions call the "time of negligence" (waqt al-ghafla). It features specific Quranic verses not recited in any other prayer, and a qunut whose words invoke Allah's exclusive knowledge of the unseen as the means of seeking fulfillment of one's needs. It is narrated that whoever prays it regularly inherits Paradise and has their sincere requests fulfilled.
أُصَلِّي صَلَاةَ الْغُفَيْلَةِ قُرْبَةً إِلَى اللَّهِ
Usalli salatal-ghufaylati qurbatan ila-llah
I pray Salat al-Ghufaylah, seeking nearness to Allah.
وَذَا النُّونِ إِذ ذَّهَبَ مُغَاضِبًا فَظَنَّ أَن لَّن نَّقْدِرَ عَلَيْهِ فَنَادَىٰ فِي الظُّلُمَاتِ أَن لَّا إِلَٰهَ إِلَّا أَنتَ سُبْحَانَكَ إِنِّي كُنتُ مِنَ الظَّالِمِينَ فَاسْتَجَبْنَا لَهُ وَنَجَّيْنَاهُ مِنَ الْغَمِّ وَكَذَٰلِكَ نُنجِي الْمُؤْمِنِينَ
Wa dhan-nooni idh dhahaba mughaadiban fazanna an lan naqdira 'alayhi fanaadaa fi-z-zulumaati an laa ilaaha illaa anta subhaanaka innee kuntu mina-z-zaalimeen fastajabna lahu wa najjaynaahu mina-l-ghamm wa kadhalika nunji-l-mu'mineen
And [remember] the man of the whale (Yunus), when he left in anger and thought that We would not decree anything against him. He called out in the depths of darkness: "There is no god but You — glory be to You! Indeed I was among the wrongdoers." So We responded to him and saved him from the anguish. And thus do We save the believers.
وَعِندَهُ مَفَاتِحُ الْغَيْبِ لَا يَعْلَمُهَا إِلَّا هُوَ وَيَعْلَمُ مَا فِي الْبَرِّ وَالْبَحْرِ وَمَا تَسْقُطُ مِن وَرَقَةٍ إِلَّا يَعْلَمُهَا وَلَا حَبَّةٍ فِي ظُلُمَاتِ الْأَرْضِ وَلَا رَطْبٍ وَلَا يَابِسٍ إِلَّا فِي كِتَابٍ مُّبِينٍ|||اَللَّهُمَّ إِنِّي أَسْأَلُكَ بِمَفَاتِحِ الْغَيْبِ الَّتِي لَا يَعْلَمُهَا إِلَّا أَنْتَ أَنْ تُصَلِّيَ عَلَىٰ مُحَمَّدٍ وَآلِهِ اَللَّهُمَّ أَنْتَ وَلِيُّ نِعْمَتِي وَالْقَادِرُ عَلَىٰ طَلِبَتِي تَعْلَمُ حَاجَتِي فَأَسْأَلُكَ بِحَقِّ مُحَمَّدٍ وَآلِهِ عَلَيْهِ وَعَلَيْهِمُ السَّلَامُ لَمَّا قَضَيْتَهَا لِي
Wa 'indahu mafaatihul-ghaybi laa ya'lamuha illaa huw wa ya'lamu maa fi-l-barri wa-l-bahr wa maa tasqutu min waraqatin illaa ya'lamuha wa laa habbatin fee zulumati-l-ard wa laa ratbin wa laa yaabisin illaa fee kitaabin mubeen Allaahumma innee as'aluka bimafaatihil-ghaybi allatee laa ya'lamuha illaa anta an tusalliya 'alaa Muhammadin wa aalihi — Allaahumma anta waliyyu ni'matee wal-qaadiru 'alaa talibatee ta'lamu haajatee fa-as'aluka bihaqqi Muhammadin wa aalihi 'alayhi wa 'alayhimus-salaam lammaa qadaytahaa lee
And with Him are the keys of the unseen — none knows them but He. He knows what is on land and in the sea. Not a leaf falls but He knows it, nor a grain in the darkness of the earth, nor anything moist or dry — but it is in a clear record. O Allah, I ask You by the keys of the unseen which none knows but You, to send blessings upon Muhammad and his family — O Allah, You are the Guardian of my blessings and the Capable of fulfilling my requests. You know my need. So I ask You by the right of Muhammad and his family, peace be upon him and them, to grant it to me.
Salat al-Hajat
صلاة الحاجة
A 2-rakat mustahab prayer for the fulfilment of needs. Imam al-Sadiq (a.s.) guaranteed its acceptance, recorded in Al-Kafi vol. 3 and Ayatollah Sistani's commentary on Al-Urwat al-Wuthqa.
اَللَّهُمَّ أَنْتَ السَّلاَمُ وَمِنکَ السَّلاَمُ وَإِلَيکَ يَرْجِعُ السَّلاَمُ اَللَّهُمَّ صَلِّ عَلى مُحَمَّدٍ وَآلِ مُحَمَّدٍ وَبَلِّغْ رُوحَ مُحَمَّدٍ مِنِّي السَّلاَمَ وَبَلِّغْ أَرْوَاحَ الْأَئِمَّةِ الصَّالِحِينَ سَلاَمِي وَأَرْدُدْ عَلَيَّ مِنْهُمُ السَّلاَمَ وَالسَّلاَمُ عَلَيْهِمْ وَرَحْمَةُ اللهِ وَبَرَکَاتُهُ اَللَّهُمَّ إِنَّ هَاتَيْنِ الرَّکْعَتَيْنِ مِنِي هَدِيَّةٌ إِلَى رَسُولِ اللهِ فَأَثْبِتْنِي عَلَيْهِمَا مَا أَمَّلْتُ وَرَجَوْتُ فِيکَ وَفِي رَسُولِکَ يَا وَلِيَّ الْمُؤْمِنِينَ
Allaahumma anta-s-salaamu wa minka-s-salaamu wa ilayka yarji'u-s-salaam. Allaahumma salli 'alaa Muhammadin wa aali Muhammadin wa balligh rooha Muhammadin minni-s-salaam wa balligh arwaaha-l-a'immatissaaliheen salaamee wa ardud 'alayya minhumu-s-salaam wa-s-salaamu 'alayhim wa rahmatullaahi wa barakaatuh. Allaahumma inna haatayni-r-rak'atayn minnee hadiyyatun ilaa rasoolillaah fa-athbitnee 'alayhimaa maa ammaltu wa rajawtu feeka wa fee rasoolik yaa waliyya-l-mu'mineen
O Allah, You are Peace, from You comes peace, and to You peace returns. O Allah, send blessings upon Muhammad and the family of Muhammad. Convey my greetings to the soul of Muhammad, and to the souls of the righteous Imams, and return their peace to me. Peace be upon them and Allah's mercy and blessings. O Allah, these two rakats are a gift from me to the Messenger of Allah — grant me upon them what I hoped and desired in You and in Your Messenger, O Guardian of the believers.
يَا حَيُّ يَا قَيُّومُ يَا حَيًا لَا يَمُوتُ يَا حَيُّ لَا إِلٰهَ إِلَّا أَنتَ يَا ذَا الْجَلَالِ وَالْإِكْرَامِ يَا أَرْحَمَ الرَّاحِمِينَ
Yaa Hayyu yaa Qayyoom yaa Hayyan laa yamootu yaa Hayyu laa ilaaha illaa anta yaa dha-l-jalaali wa-l-ikraam yaa arhama-r-raahimeen
O Living! O Sustainer! O Ever-Living who does not die! O Living One — there is no god but You! O Possessor of Majesty and Honor! O Most Merciful of the merciful!

Yaa Muhammadu yaa rasoolallaah ashkoo ilallaahi wa ilayka haajatee wa ilaa ahli baytika-r-raashideena haajatee wa bikum atawajjahu ilallaahi fee haajatee
O Muhammad, O Messenger of Allah — I complain to Allah and to you of my need. To your rightly-guided Household my need. And through you I turn to Allah in my need.
صَلِّ عَلَى مُحَمَّدٍ وَآلِ مُحَمَّدٍ وَافْعَلْ بِي
Salli 'alaa Muhammadin wa aali Muhammadin wa-f'al bee
Send blessings upon Muhammad and the family of Muhammad, and do with me...
Shaykh al-Tusi's Istikhara
استخارة الشيخ الطوسي
A method narrated by Shaykh al-Tusi. Involves a bath, 2 rakat salat, then entering sajdah and reciting a brief supplication seeking Allah's choice in one's affairs.
اسْتَخِيرُ اللهَ فِي جَمِيعِ أُمُورِي كُلِّهَا خِيَرَةً فِي عَافِيَةٍ
Astakheerul-laaha fee jamee'i umooree kullihaa khiyaratan fee 'aafiyah
I seek Allah's choice in all my affairs — a choice that brings well-being.
Imam Jafar al-Sadiq's Tasbih (Three-Phrase)
استخارة الإمام الصادق بالتسبيح
A method narrated from Imam Jafar al-Sadiq (a.s.). Recite specific surahs and supplications, then move tasbih beads one at a time while repeating three phrases of dhikr. The phrase on which the last bead falls determines the guidance.
اَللَّهُمَّ صَلِّ عَلىٰ مُحَمَّدٍ وَآلِ مُحَمَّدٍ
Allaahumma salli 'alaa Muhammadin wa aali Muhammad
O Allah, send blessings upon Muhammad and the family of Muhammad.
اَللَّهُمَّ إِنِّي أَسْتَخِيرُكَ وَأَنْ تُرِيَنِي مَا هُوَ الْأَصْلَحُ لِي فِي دِينِي وَدُنْيَايَ
Allaahumma innee astakheeruka wa an turiyani maa huwa al-aslahu lee fee deenee wa dunyaaya
O Allah, I seek Your guidance and ask You to show me what is most beneficial for me in my religion and worldly life.
اَللَّهُمَّ إِنْ كَانَ أَصْلَحُ فِي دِينِي وَدُنْيَايَ فِعْلُ مَا أَنَا عَازِمٌ عَلَيْهِ فَأْمُرْنِي وَإِلَّا فَانْهَنِي إِنَّكَ عَلَىٰ كُلِّ شَيْءٍ قَدِيرٌ
Allaahumma in kaana aslahu fee deenee wa dunyaaya fi'lu maa anaa 'aazimun 'alayhi fa'murnee wa illaa fan-hanee innaka 'alaa kulli shay'in qadeer
O Allah, if acting on my intention is best for my religion and worldly life, then command me to proceed. Otherwise, turn me away — truly You have power over all things.
The Prophet's Quranic Istikhara
استخارة النبي بالقرآن
A method narrated from the Holy Prophet (s.a.w.a.). Recite Surah al-Ikhlas and a supplication, then open the Quran and derive the guidance from the first line of the right-hand page.
اَللَّهُمَّ إِنِّي تَفَاءَلْتُ بِكِتَابِكَ وَتَوَكَّلْتُ عَلَيْكَ فَأَرِنِي مِنْ كِتَابِكَ مَا هُوَ مَكْتُوبٌ مِنْ سِرِّكَ الْمَكْنُونِ فِي غَيْبِكَ
Allaahumma innee tafaa'altu bi-kitaabika wa tawakkaltu 'alayka fa-arinee min kitaabika maa huwa maktoobun min sirrika al-maknoon fee ghaybik
O Allah, I seek a good omen through Your Book and place my trust in You. Show me from Your Book what is written of Your hidden secret in the unseen.
Imam Mahdi's Major Istikhara
استخارة الإمام المهدي الكبرى
The major istikhara transmitted from Imam al-Mahdi (a.j.t.f.s.) — the last letter issued from his Holiness during the Short Occultation. A comprehensive supplication with a conditional structure: if the matter is good, ask Allah to facilitate it; if evil, ask Him to turn it away.
بِسْمِ اللَّهِ الرَّحْمٰنِ الرَّحِيمِ اَللَّهُمَّ إِنِّي أَسْأَلُكَ بِاسْمِكَ الَّذِي عَزَمْتَ بِهِ عَلَى السَّمَاوَاتِ وَالْأَرْضِ فَقُلْتَ لَهُمَا ائْتِيَا طَوْعًا أَوْ كَرْهًا قَالَتَا أَتَيْنَا طَائِعِينَ
Bismi-llaahi-r-rahmaani-r-raheem Allaahumma innee as'aluka bismikal-ladhee 'azamta bihi 'alas-samaawaati wal-ard faqulta lahumaa i'tiyaa taw'an aw karhan qaalataa ataynaa taa'i'een
In the name of Allah, the Compassionate, the Merciful. O Allah, I ask You by Your Name with which You commanded the heavens and the earth, saying: "Come willingly or unwillingly," and they said: "We come willingly."
وَبِاسْمِكَ الَّذِي عَزَمْتَ بِهِ عَلَىٰ عَصَا مُوسَىٰ فَإِذَا هِيَ تَلْقَفُ مَا يَأْفِكُونَ وَأَسْأَلُكَ بِاسْمِكَ الَّذِي صَرَفْتَ بِهِ قُلُوبَ السَّحَرَةِ إِلَيْكَ حَتَّىٰ قَالُوا آمَنَّا بِرَبِّ الْعَالَمِينَ رَبِّ مُوسَىٰ وَهَارُونَ أَنْتَ اللَّهُ رَبُّ الْعَالَمِينَ وَأَسْأَلُكَ بِالْقُدْرَةِ الَّتِي تُبْلِي بِهَا كُلَّ جَدِيدٍ وَتُجَدِّدُ بِهَا كُلَّ بَالٍ وَأَسْأَلُكَ بِحَقِّ كُلِّ حَقٍّ هُوَ لَكَ وَبِكُلِّ حَقٍّ جَعَلْتَهُ عَلَيْكَ
Wa bismika-lladhee 'azamta bihi 'alaa 'asaa Moosaa fa-idhaa hiya talqafu maa ya'fikoon wa as'aluka bismika-lladhee sarafta bihi qulooba-s-saharati ilayk hattaa qaaloo aamannaa bi-rabbi-l-'aalameen rabbi Moosaa wa Haaroon anta-l-laahu rabbu-l-'aalameen wa as'aluka bil-qudratil-latee tublee bihaa kulla jadeedin wa tujaddidu bihaa kulla baalin wa as'aluka bi-haqqi kulli haqqin huwa laka wa bi-kulli haqqin ja'altahu 'alayk
By Your Name with which You commanded the staff of Moses — and it swallowed what they falsely devised. I ask You by Your Name with which You turned the hearts of the magicians toward You, until they said: 'We believe in the Lord of the worlds — the Lord of Moses and Aaron.' You are Allah, Lord of all worlds. I ask You by the Power through which You wear out all that is new and renew what has grown old. I ask You by every right that belongs to You, and every right You have made binding upon Yourself.
إِنْ كَانَ هَذَا الْأَمْرُ خَيْرًا لِي فِي دِينِي وَدُنْيَايَ وَآخِرَتِي أَنْ تُصَلِّيَ عَلَىٰ مُحَمَّدٍ وَآلِ مُحَمَّدٍ وَتُسَلِّمَ عَلَيْهِمْ تَسْلِيمًا وَتُهَيِّئَهُ لِي وَتُسَهِّلَهُ عَلَيَّ وَتُلَطِّفَ لِي فِيهِ بِرَحْمَتِكَ يَا أَرْحَمَ الرَّاحِمِينَ
In kaana haadha-l-amru khayran lee fee deenee wa dunyaaya wa aakhiratee an tusalliya 'alaa Muhammadin wa aali Muhammadin wa tusallima 'alayhim tasleemaa wa tuhayyia'hu lee wa tusahhilahu 'alayya wa tulattifa lee feehi bi-rahmatika yaa arhamar-raahimeen
If this matter is good for me — in my religion, my worldly life, and my Hereafter — then send blessings upon Muhammad and the family of Muhammad and grant them peace, and make it ready and easy for me, and make it gentle through Your mercy, O Most Merciful of the merciful.
وَإِنْ كَانَ شَرًّا لِي فِي دِينِي وَدُنْيَايَ وَآخِرَتِي أَنْ تُصَلِّيَ عَلَىٰ مُحَمَّدٍ وَآلِ مُحَمَّدٍ وَتُسَلِّمَ عَلَيْهِمْ تَسْلِيمًا وَأَنْ تَصْرِفَهُ عَنِّي بِمَا شِئْتَ وَكَيْفَ شِئْتَ وَحَيْثُ شِئْتَ وَتُرْضِيَنِي بِقَضَائِكَ وَتُبَارِكْ لِي فِي قَدَرِكَ حَتَّىٰ لَا أُحِبَّ تَعْجِيلَ شَيْءٍ أَخَّرْتَهُ وَلَا تَأْخِيرَ شَيْءٍ عَجَّلْتَهُ فَإِنَّهُ لَا حَوْلَ وَلَا قُوَّةَ إِلَّا بِكَ يَا عَلِيُّ يَا عَظِيمُ يَا ذَا الْجَلَالِ وَالْإِكْرَامِ
Wa in kaana sharran lee fee deenee wa dunyaaya wa aakhiratee an tusalliya 'alaa Muhammadin wa aali Muhammadin wa tusallima 'alayhim tasleemaa wa an tasrifahu 'annee bimaa shi'ta wa kayfa shi'ta wa haythu shi'ta wa turdhiyanee bi-qadhaa'ika wa tubaariku lee fee qadarika hattaa laa uhibba ta'jeela shay'in akhkhartahu wa laa ta'kheera shay'in 'ajjaltahu fa-innahu laa hawla wa laa quwwata illaa bika yaa 'Aliyyu yaa 'Azeem yaa dhal-jalaali wal-ikraam
And if it is evil for me — in my religion, my worldly life, and my Hereafter — then send blessings upon Muhammad and the family of Muhammad and grant them peace, and turn it away from me as You will, how You will, and wherever You will. Make me content with Your decree and bless me in what You ordain, so that I do not long to hasten what You have delayed, nor wish to delay what You have hastened. Truly, there is no power nor might except through You — O Most High, O Most Great, O Possessor of Majesty and Honor.
Imam Mahdi's Simple Tasbih
استخارة الإمام المهدي بالسبحة
The simplest of the tasbih methods: salawat 3 times, then move two beads at a time. One remaining = proceed; two = abstain.
اَللَّهُمَّ صَلِّ عَلىٰ مُحَمَّدٍ وَ آلِ مُحَمَّدٍ
Allaahumma salli 'alaa Muhammadin wa aali Muhammad
O Allah, send blessings upon Muhammad and the family of Muhammad.
Namaz Istighfar 1
صلاة الاستغفار الأولى
A 2-rakat prayer narrated from the Holy Prophet (s.a.w.a.). Surah al-Qadr is recited after al-Hamd in each rakat, followed by Astaghfirullah 15 times. The formula continues through ruku and sajdah. Brings relief from difficulties in sustenance and life.
Namaz Istighfar 2
صلاة الاستغفار الثانية
A 4-rakat prayer narrated from the Holy Prophet (s.a.w.a.). Each rakat uses a different Surah: Ayat al-Kursi, al-Ikhlas, al-Falaq, al-Naas. After the prayer, recite Astaghfirullah 10 times. If performed on Saturday before noon, Allah forgives all sins.
Namaz Istighfar 3 (Easiest)
صلاة الاستغفار الثالثة
The simplest method: 2 rakats, each with Surah al-Hamd followed by Surah al-Ikhlas 60 times. Promised: forgiveness of sins.
Namaz Istighfar 4
صلاة الاستغفار الرابعة
A 2-rakat prayer narrated from the Holy Prophet (s.a.w.a.). To be performed on Tuesday evening. Rakat 1: al-Hamd + al-Qadr. Rakat 2: al-Hamd + al-Ikhlas (7 times). Followed by Astaghfirullah.
Namaz Istighfar 5
صلاة الاستغفار الخامسة
A 10-rakat prayer narrated from the Holy Prophet (s.a.w.a.). To be performed on Tuesday. Each rakat: al-Hamd + Ayat al-Kursi (once) + al-Ikhlas (7 times). Promised: forgiveness of all sins of one's life.
Namaz Istighfar 6
صلاة الاستغفار السادسة
A 2-rakat prayer. Rakat 1: al-Hamd + al-Qadr (3 times). Rakat 2: al-Hamd + al-Zilzal (3 times). After the prayer, recite Astaghfirullah Rabbi wa atoobu ilayh 100 times.
